Liverpool news and transfers LIVE - Caoimhin Kelleher future, Benjamin Pavard claim, Mason Mount latest

Hello and welcome to the ECHO’s dedicated Liverpool news and transfers blog on Thursday, May 25.

Liverpool have reportedly been dealt a setback in their attempts to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea this summer. Due to his ongoing contract standstill, the England midfielder has possible suitors – including the Reds – on alert as they hope to strengthen within their engine room.

However, reports from The Athletic indicate Mount is ‘leaning towards’ Manchester United as a first-choice option should he depart Stamford Bridge when the market reopens.

Elsewhere, the Reds continue to pursue Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister – who was in action for the Seagulls against Manchester City last night.

Meanwhile, there are suggestions Liverpool could move for Ruben Neves from Wolves. However, the Portuguese is also attracting interest from Catalan giants and La Liga champions Barcelona.

Liverpool ‘braced for offers for Kelleher

Liverpool are “braced” to receive a number of offers for back-up goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher this summer, according to a new report.

Football Insider claims despite Reds boss Jurgen Klopp insisting it would take an “extraordinary” offer for Liverpool to part ways with the Republic of Ireland international this summer, the club are “braced” to receive offers for the 24-year-old. However, Liverpool are determined not to do business at a “cut-price fee”.

It has been claimed Tottenham, Brighton and Brentford will all be in the market for a goalkeeper this summer.

Firmino hails Reds supporters for Anfield farewell

Roberto Firmino has thanked Liverpool supporters for the “incredible” reception he was granted after the Reds’ final Anfield game of the season against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Earlier this year, the Brazilian revealed he would be ending his eight-year stay on Merseyside to pursue a new chapter in his career upon the expiration of his contract. It comes after winning the Champions League, Super Cup, Club World Cup, Premier League, League Cup, FA Cup and Community Shield during a glittering career at Anfield.

And after scoring a last-gasp equaliser against Unai Emery’s side on Saturday, Firmino, alongside fellow Anfield departees Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and vice-captain James Milner, was afforded an emotional farewell by the 54,000 Kopties packed inside of Anfield, before celebrating his extraordinary career with the Reds during a private party with his family, friends and team-mates some 24 hours later.

Writing on Instagram to his 14.7m followers on Thursday, the 31-year-old thanked Red supporters for the celebration of his career over the weekend, which coincided with the unveiling of a mural on Rockfield Road, saying: “My last match in Anfield was incredible!

“And my whole time in Liverpool has been nothing but wonderful. I will never forget the roar of the Kop and the passion from all of you. The family and myself will forever carry this great club in our hearts.

“We are so grateful for everything we were allowed to experience with you in these 8 years – the wins, the losses, the titles, the heartbreaks – this all helped me to become the man I am today. I can truly say that Liverpool has become a part of my family. Thank you all! #YNWA

Liverpool winger signs new contract

Ranel Young has signed his first professional contract with Liverpool after an impressive season for the Under-18s.

The 17-year-old joined the Reds from Huddersfield Town as an Under-12s player, and was promoted to the Under-18s last summer as he continues to progress through the club’s Academy.

The winger, who is comfortable on either flank, recorded four goals and an assist from 17 Premier League U18 appearances during an eye-catching breakthrough season.

Meanwhile, he also featured twice in the FA Youth Cup, and made five appearances for Liverpool Under-19s in the UEFA Youth League as they suffered a quarter-final defeat to Sporting Lisbon.

Inacio linked with Liverpool

Liverpool have been named as one of the clubs reportedly keeping an eye on Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio.

That’s according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, via Sport Witness, who are reporting that a number of Italian and Premier League sides are keeping an eye on the young defender.

The report also claims that Sporting previously turned down offers worth €30m for Inacio, and said he’s only leaving this summer for the price of his release clause, which stands at €45m.

Ian Doyle Q&A

Liverpool head into their final game of the season against Southampton with a general sense of disappointment of how the 2022-23 campaign has panned out.

Jurgen Klopp’s side went so close to an unprecedented quadruple last year but this time around will finish up without any major trophies in the cabinet.

The Reds also look set to miss out on Champions League football next season, barring a spectacular collapse from fourth-placed Manchester United in their final two matches.

Where has it gone wrong for Klopp’s men this year? Who do Liverpool need to sign in the summer to get back to where fans want them to be? Will FSG put up the cash to land their top targets?

The ECHO’s chief Liverpool writer Ian Doyle will be online between 11:30 and 13:00 (BST) to answer these questions, and more.

Ask Ian any questions you have here.

Colwill breaks silence on future

Liverpool-linked defender Levi Colwill has been coy on his future at Chelsea but expressed his appreciation for the trust Brighton & Hove Albion put in him.

The ECHO understands that Colwill is admired by recruitment chiefs at Anfield after showcasing his potential during his debut campaign in the Premier League.

Manager Jurgen Klopp recently admitted that if there was a good central defender in the market that fit the Reds criteria that they would make a move in the summer.

Firmino ‘holds Real talks’

Roberto Firmino has reportedly been in talks with Real Madrid over a potential move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

That’s according to Spanish publicationSport, who are reporting that Los Blancos and the Brazilian international have held talks over a deal.

The report also goes on to claim that Inter Milan and clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabian are also interested in the forward, who will leave Liverpool once his contract expires at the end of the season.

Liverpool have ‘concrete’ interest in Neves

Liverpool reportedly have a ‘concrete’ interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves.

That’s according to Football Insider, who are reporting that the 26-year-old will quit the Molineux club this summer and Barcelona are in pole position to sign Neves.

However, the report also claims that Liverpool are lurking in the wings in case an agreement cannot be reached between Wolves and Barcelona.

Bellingham to Liverpool transfer claim

Liverpool could reportedly still pounce should Jude Bellingham’s transfer to Real Madrid break down this summer.

As reported by the ECHO last month, Liverpool have halted their pursuit of Bellingham for the time being in favour of undertaking a more well-rounded approach to their midfied reconstruction this summer.

However, according to a report by Football Transfers, the Reds have not given up entire hope of yet, but a move to Spain still looks the most likely for the England international.

United ‘eyeing Mount swoop’

Manchester United are reportedly set to launch a £55million swoop for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who are reporting that Old Trafford sources have indicated that talks over a move for the 24-year-old are set to commence.

The report goes on to claim that United want to pay in the region of £55m for Mount, a price that falls way below Chelsea’s £85m valuation.

The England international is believed to be one of Liverpool’s first-choice transfer targets this summer, with the Reds planning to revamp their midfield.

Out of contract at Stamford Bridge next year and yet to agree a new deal, Chelsea will sell the 24-year-old at the end of the season if he doesn’t sign an extension.
