Alexis Mac Allister 'done', Mason Mount chances good - Dream Liverpool team with four transfers

It’s not conceivable that, in the first Premier League game of 2023/24, Liverpool could line up with an entirely new midfield. It is almost a given that there will be one or two changes, with those that arrive needing to hit the ground running.

The Telegraph’s Chris Bascombe has reported that the Reds will look to sign four players this summer: three midfielders and one defender.

The middle of the park has been the key area of weakness for Liverpool this season as it has fallen from title contention to a near-certain Europa League berth.

Here, sets out a dream XI after a summer revamp, based on the transfer updates we are aware of so far.

Alisson, the Reds’ best player this season, will be in goal, with Ibrahima Konaté and Virgil van Dijk in front of him. The club may well recruit a new center-half but expect it to be a younger player who at first provides improved back-up before challenging for a starting role long-term. One of the candidates may be Sporting’s 21-year-old Gonçalo Inácio, who has been scouted by Liverpool, as per Goal, and has a $49m/£39m/€45m release clause (Record via Sport Witness).

Trent Alexander-Arnold will nominally remain at right-back, but continue to move into midfield positions when Liverpool has the ball, while Andy Robertson retains his left-back spot. There have been some calls for a more natural defender on the left in the new system, which forces Robertson to drop into a back three at times, but Jürgen Klopp is unlikely to lose faith in one of his most consistent players.
